Trib­utes from around the globe have poured in for Arnold Palmer af­ter the seven-time ma­jor win­ner, and one of the most beloved fig­ures in golf, died on Sun­day night. Palmer, whose pow­er­ful swing, at­tack­ing ap­proach and ready smile at­tracted mil­lions of loyal fans known as ‘Arnie’s Army’ dur­ing his il­lus­tri­ous ca­reer, had cel­e­brated his 87th birth­day ear­lier this month. The news of Palmer’s pass­ing shocked the golf­ing world, with lead­ing play­ers and avid golfers pay­ing trib­ute to one of the true leg­ends of the game. “I wish I had an­other chance to talk to him, but I am so glad we talked a cou­ple weeks ago on his birth­day, when he sounded great,” said an­other great of the game, Jack Nick­laus. “He was one of my best friends, clos­est friends, and he was for a long, long time. I will miss him greatly. He was the king of our sport and al­ways will be.” Tiger Woods also paid trib­ute, say­ing: “Thanks Arnold for your friend­ship, coun­sel and a lot of laughs. Your phi­lan­thropy and hu­mil­ity are part of your leg­end. It’s hard to imag­ine golf with­out you or any­one more im­por­tant to the game than the King.”
