Top up Nol cards on your Android
Users will soon be able to top up their Nol cards through the Public Transport App on Android phones. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will launch the final version of the Smart Fare project to the public in October. New services will be added to the Public Transport App and the smart services on the app will be upgraded. The new services will enable Nol card owners to pay for services provided through the app. It will be possible to read and update Nol cards directly through Android devices. Khaled Al Awadi, Director of Automated Fare Collection, RTA, said: “The project uses the NFC technology, ie tapping Nol card on smartphones in which the Public Transport Smart App is uploaded. “The customer would then be able to top up the Nol card and buy a bus and metro permit without visiting ticket counters.” Services will be paid for through entering details of customer’s credit card to the app.
