Store switched off fridges at night

A food re­tailer that would switch off its fridges af­ter clos­ing and put them on again dur­ing the day is among eight su­per­mar­kets fined for breach­ing health and safety laws. Shar­jah Mu­nic­i­pal­ity pe­nalised the stores af­ter vis­its on 101 out­lets. Omar Al Muhairi, Head of the Food Con­trol Sec­tion at Shar­jah Mu­nic­i­pal­ity, said: “The in­spec­tors checked the level of per­sonal hy­giene main­tained by the em­ploy­ees of the food out­lets. “The in­spec­tors also checked if the em­ploy­ees are abid­ing by health pro­tec­tion rules re­lated to food stor­ing, dis­tri­bu­tion and tem­per­a­ture.” Al Muhairi added: “The pub­lic should al­ways check ex­piry dates and re­port su­per­mar­kets that don’t follow heath rules.”
