LISTEN TO THE MINI ECO-WARRIORS

Are you worried about the environment and the future of our planet? Here's what the next generation advise if you want to make a difference...

Hussain Shikoh, 11, Nord Anglia

“Even something simple like throwing out cooking oil can make a big difference. If you throw it out down the sink, the drains will not be efficient. But if you collect it and dispose of it in the right way, it can be reused as bio fuel.”

Dhruv Laha, 13, Gems New Millennium

“The presentations showed us the consequences of our actions as human beings. I think the first thing we should do is take the approach China has used, and Delhi in India also, with odd and even numbered licence plates. Even numbers use the roads one day and odds the next. It is a simple and effective way to car pool and become more environmentally friendly because there will be less cars on the road.”

Sampurna Dutta, 14, Gems New Millennium

“We see the world as a beautiful place but rarely look deep or see how our actions are harming the world. The least we can do is try not too use excessive amounts of things that are harmful to the place we call home. If we are less wasteful personally, we can spread the word in neighbourhoods and across the country.”

Alexandria Baritsky Shepherd, 12, Uptown School

“It has always been my dream to live a 100 per cent green life and so it was

interesting for me to learn about green buildings. Even just considering location, so you live nearer your school or work, can have such a big impact in terms of reducing carbon emissions. Steps like this are better for the environment.”

Laila Al Mahdy, 12, Uptown School

I learned a lot about saving water and how our use and wastefulness in water makes such a big impact on the entire planet. One way to save water in the house is to make better choices in terms of plants for the garden and the house. We should choose plants that don’t need much water such as a cactus.”
