GITEX packed as shoppers eye gadgets
By 7DAYS News Team Thousands of bargain hunters descended on Dubai World Trade Centre as GITEX Shopper 2016 got under way yesterday.
7DAYS was onsite to catch up with shoppers who were keen to snag a deal or two and save a few dirhams.
Desktop computers, laptops and the latest iPhone and Samsung handsets were among the most sought-after goods.
However, there was a sense that shoppers who were looking for huge reductions were going to be disappointed, as more than one consumer commented how similar prices were to those that were already in store.
“The deals are good,” said Reginald (pictured left inset).
“From what I have seen though the prices are more or less the same at the malls.
“The previews are good and it is like you are buying something that is not part of the original line but you have to get it in a higher-priced deal.” Another shopper Christina told 7DAYS: “I came to buy laptops and smart watches but from what I have seen the prices are exactly the same. “The only difference is one or two things with the packaging, you might get an extra small watch or an extra tripod, that’s basically it.” Nadeem Khanzadah, Head of OmniChannel Retail, Jumbo Group, said: “We’ve got the latest and most comprehensive line-up of products, and a fabulous range of competitive offers, promotions and premium giveaways like no other retailer.” “Apple fans are thrilled that we have the much awaited iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus and the latest Sony Xperia XZ is capturing a lot of attention.” Mahesh Chotrani, Assistant Vice President, Jacky’s Electronics, added: “We’ve got the latest products from the world’s top electronic brands including the newly launched Apple IPhone 7 and Samsung Note 7 – for which we are seeing great demand.”
