There’s always a reason why employees abscond

7 Days in Dubai - - ENTERTAINMENT -

Dear employers, (It is ‘absolutely illegal’ for someone to hold passports, 7DAYS Letters), employing someone doesn’t mean you own them. Whatever you pay for the cost of the employee is the cost of employing someone here. Everyone pays for staff, big or small businesses. When you have a business here and hire people then this is the cost. It’s not some special case where only you pay. Generally speaking, staff don’t just up and run away for no reason but your anger should be directed at inflexibility of visas and ‘labour bans’, not actual humans who work for companies who are entitled to do as they please. I have never known anyone abscond for nothing. It’s usually a last resort because companies retain passports or won’t give them pay and they have no other way out. Maybe they want to resign but the company won’t let them … well too bad. OD UAE 10,000 dirham fine with six months jail term followed by deportation… problem solved! Conrad Dubai are in a particular area. So, if all rents go up they reflect this. They don’t seem to actually provide any checks and balances just inform everyone ‘yep, it’s even more expensive now, thanks’ – cheers, for that!
