MARIA’S DOPING BAN REDUCED TO 15 MONTHS
Maria Sharapova could return at the 2017 French Open after seeing her twoyear doping ban reduced to 15 months on appeal. The Russian was banned by the International Tennis Federation after the five-time Grand Slam champion tested positive for the then recently banned drug meldonium. Sharapova had tested positive after losing to Serena Williams in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open on January 26, 2016. The reduction of the ban means that she will be able to return to tennis at the end of April 2017, just in time for the French Open, the last major title she won, back in 2014.
