Highly cus­tomised weapons with elab­o­rate en­grav­ings are in huge de­mand among UAE hunters, ac­cord­ing to one firearms man­u­fac­turer. Mean­while, cara­cal In­ter­na­tional has en­graved fal­cons on col­lec­tors’ edi­tion ri­fles and even an elab­o­rate scene of a group of elders meet­ing close to an Emi­rati fort (pic­tured top right). One is mod­elled on an early ri­fle pro­duced 600 years ago. These were just some of the things on dis­play the Abu Dhabi In­ter­na­tional Hunt­ing and Eques­trian Ex­hi­bi­tion (ADIHEX) this week. Naser Ali Alo­maira, Act­ing Head of Com­mer­cial at Cara­cal In­ter­na­tional, said: “We launched the cus­tomi­sa­tion depart­ment in De­cem­ber 2015 and our big­gest mar­ket for that is within the UAE.” The ma­jor­ity of hunters from the UAE go to Africa for trips, an­other Cara­cal of­fi­cial said, with im­pala and cape buf­falo among their key tar­gets. Other un­usual items on dis­play in­clude a Dhs520,000 sculp­ture of a fal­con (pic­tured above) and a Dhs30,000 dag­ger. The ex­hi­bi­tion con­tin­ues un­til Satur­day.
