GUN FANS RIFLE THROUGH ADIHEX
Highly customised weapons with elaborate engravings are in huge demand among UAE hunters, according to one firearms manufacturer. Meanwhile, caracal International has engraved falcons on collectors’ edition rifles and even an elaborate scene of a group of elders meeting close to an Emirati fort (pictured top right). One is modelled on an early rifle produced 600 years ago. These were just some of the things on display the Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition (ADIHEX) this week. Naser Ali Alomaira, Acting Head of Commercial at Caracal International, said: “We launched the customisation department in December 2015 and our biggest market for that is within the UAE.” The majority of hunters from the UAE go to Africa for trips, another Caracal official said, with impala and cape buffalo among their key targets. Other unusual items on display include a Dhs520,000 sculpture of a falcon (pictured above) and a Dhs30,000 dagger. The exhibition continues until Saturday.
