Pieters still feeling effects of the Ryder Cup

Thomas Pieters admits the exertions of the Ryder Cup have taken their toll as he prepares to play in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship this week. The Belgian was one of the standout performers for Europe in Hazeltine despite being a rookie, playing five matches and picking up four points. Now the 24-year-old must quickly adapt to playing on the European Tour once again at the Scottish tournament, which is played at St Andrews, Kingsbarns and Carnoustie. “It was an exhausting week. Getting up at 4 or 5am every day and playing 36 holes two days in a row in that kind of environment takes a lot out of you,” said Pieters. “But I’m happy to be here in Scotland and a little bit rested – though not really.” Pieters also feels he handled the pressure of the Ryder Cup and was pleased with his own performance as Europe lost 17-11. He added: “I was playing well right before, but you still have to come through in that type of environment and it was new to me, but I think I handled myself well.”
