Pros­ti­tu­tion gang in court

Thirty-five peo­ple have gone on trial ac­cused of hu­man traf­fick­ing and pros­ti­tu­tion. Abu Dhabi Crim­i­nal Court heard the gang, men and women, were de­tained in two sep­a­rate raids dur­ing an in­ves­ti­ga­tion. Pros­e­cu­tors said in one of the in­ci­dents po­lice caught eight women and six men from Uzbek­istan, Pak­istan, Bangladesh and other coun­tries in an apart­ment. A wo­man and her hus­band, who are among the de­fen­dants, al­legedly ran the brothel and brought women into the coun­try. The women, aged be­tween 20 and 35, worked in par­ti­tioned rooms at the same time. In court, many of the women ad­mit­ted to pros­ti­tu­tion but oth­ers said they were be­ing forced to work there. Five of the men de­nied traf­fick­ing and brothel-keep­ing. The trial con­tin­ues.
