VETTEL MUST EARN NEW FERRARI CONTRACT
Ferrari chief Maurizio Arrivabene has told Sebastian Vettel that he must “earn” a new contract with the Italian team after another difficult season. The four-time world champion has failed to win a race this season and has been accused of trying to involve himself in every part of the Scuderia’s operation. Vettel’s contract runs out at the end of next season and it seems a renewal is not a forgone conclusion.
“Sebastian has a contract with us, we have work to do this year, and also the next. During the season we will see,” said Arrivabene. “Everybody has an objective. I have, the team has, Sebastian has, everybody has. So it’s right everybody has to earn their position and salary. “Sebastian just needs to focus on the car.” Vettel admitted that his own form this season has been “up and down”, with Ferrari falling behind Red Bull as Mercedes’ nearest challengers.
