Swimmer swept away in rough waters
A worker has died after drowning off the beach in Ras Al Khaimah. The Asian man was swept away by strong waves as he was swimming in a restricted area yesterday morning. Ras Al Khaimah Police said the man’s friends who had gone with him, to swim at the beach, notified the force about the incident just before noon. The friends had tried to rescue the Asian man after seeing him fighting with the water but failed. Rescue teams rushed to the sea and divers pulled the man out of the water – about 100 metres away from the beach. “The Asian man was given first aid and rushed to hospital where doctors pronounced him dead,” said Brigadier Mohammed Saeed Al Hamidi, Director General of Central Operations at Ras Al Khaimah Police. “He had taken in a lot of water.” He warned people against swimming in banned areas of the sea where they risked being swept away by strong waves.
