Why ignore skilled and professional employees?

7 Days in Dubai - - DEAR 7 DAYS -

When are employers in Dubai going to wake up? My wife is a highly-qualified, well-educated, intelligent woman with a wealth of experience and an impressive CV. So why is it that companies would rather employ someone that is unqualified, poorly educated and inexperienced who can barely speak English over a highcaliber candidate? The answer, because they’re cheap. Yes, you can pay a measly 6,000 Dirhams per month to an executive PA, secretary or receptionist whose skillset extends to picking up a phone and saying “Yes Sir, Yes Ma’am” or maybe you could pay a real wage and hire a professional. Apostrophiser Dubai at this by the way, I fully agree with our friend Apostrophiser (7DAYS Letter,Oct 10) that Dubai not only worships wealth but also glorifies those who take pride in such vulgar show of wealth.
