Food and drink prices too high, something has to give

7 Days in Dubai - - COMMUNITY -

When friends that are on Dhs60 –100k a month are saying ‘no I’m not going to such and such a venue because a beverage is close to Dhs50 each’, it could be time for Dubai’s social scene to take a look at how to bring customers back. Granted some establishments are still busy but these are only the most popular ones. There are so many places that are empty nowadays. I’m sure the happy hours help but ultimately once the happy hour is finished people are not hanging around paying Dhs50 a drink. The restaurants seem to be going the same way. Food has gone up quite a lot but still there are restaurants for most wallets until you factor in the extortionate drink prices that sends the bill rocketing. So many are empty and you need people to add atmosphere. I have noticed a few places closing now, so clearly something needs to give. More and more people are opting to have social gatherings at houses where they don’t have to pay the crazy prices for food and drinks. Hotel occupancy is down considerably, and we want/need the tourists to come, but if you tell someone from the UK/Europe that a beverage is going to cost them 8–10 pounds they will think twice, that is for sure. Normal Expat Dubai searching for parking and ending up paying for a whole day from my own pocket even though the company I work for has basement parkings available and free and we do not have many employees. My question is: should it be my job to find parking every day, spending hours and then pay every hour when I am going for work? Every hour I spend paying parking am I going to really concentrate on my work and If I concentrate on my work I forget about renewing tickets and ending up every month with fines with time wasted. All this pain for going to work. Work is only productive with peace of mind and relaxed in all means. Hassan, UAE If these precious open spaces are destroyed by selfish litter bugs it will be near impossible to get them back to what they once were in terms of natural beauty and wildlife, and that would be a tragedy for all of us, so please just put your rubbish in the bin, it is really not that difficult.
