Your guide to Dubai Design Week

7 Days in Dubai - - FRONT PAGE - dubaidesign

The city comes alive in art as Dubai Design Week returns for a second edition. The citywide event, with more than 150 presentations, kicks off today and runs until October 29 at the Dubai Design District (d3) and other iconic locations around town. Under the patronage of HH Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the project aims to support UAE-based design talent, and offer a global stage for ideas and innovations.

At the d3 walkway, the Abwab (meaning ‘doors’) initiative explores the design narrative of countries within the MENASA region. The theme for this year is ‘The Human Senses’, as depicted in photography and graphics. The Downtown Design at the heart of the city will bring together more than 100 brands from 25 countries. Visitors will see products such as lighting, bathrooms, kitchens, textiles and accessories. The artsy Alserkal Avenue neighbourhood will host gemology seminars with The Jewel Teller, film screenings, chocolate-making workshops and gallery exhibitions. Moving to Jumeirah and the Umm Suqeim area, art will focus on foodies with a culinary art class from Top Chef Cooking Studio and an interior design workshop for the little ones.
