How can car park charge Dhs200 for overstaying?

7 Days in Dubai - - EVENTS -

On a Thursday night and after visiting my cousin in JLT, after spending a little over three hours at her place I exit the parking that is adjacent to the building to be bombshelled with the news; I have to pay AED 200 to be able to exit as I exceeded the three hours free parking time. I stayed 3hrs. 20min. I will not describe the rest of the experience but I can tell you ‘I LOST IT’!! It was perhaps my mistake for not reading the board at the entrance yet still where in the world would you be charged AED 200 for additional 20 minutes! I was left for an hour with a kid in the car not permitted to exit. I contacted the police as I felt shackled by fees a greedy person decides to force on people! The police unfortunately had nothing in hand as the clause is mentioned on the board. This behaviour and experiences of greedy parking owners and landlords is unfortunately making this place very hostile and not the Dubai I came to know in the past decade. I decided to write this letter days after the incident just because I came to know many people have experienced this matter with some only exceeding three minutes over three hours. I hope 7DAYS will publish this letter and maybe a law will be implemented to put a cap on the penalty fee! Sarah S Dubai
