Harrington secures return to Dubai
Padraig Harrington will play in the DP World Tour Championship next month thanks to his first European Tour victory in more than eight years and 115 events. The Irishman’s dramatic victory in the Portugal Masters on Sunday has seen him rise from 96th to 43rd in the Race to Dubai rankings and more than double his tally for the season to 605,671 points. Following his victory in Vilamoura, Harrington said: “It’s a big win. I tried to be really aggressive. “The golf course really suited me and I just tried to go after every pin I could. “I have a pretty good short game that was on form this week. No matter where I hit it, I felt like I could get it up and down.” Andy Sullivan also moved up two places thanks to his second- place finish in Portugal and he is now 13th in the Race to Dubai rankings with a season total of 1,328,783 points. There were also significant moves for David Lipsky, who moved from 64th to 58th, and Robert Rock who jumped nine places up to 64th. Masters champion Danny Willett remains in top spot on the Race to Dubai, while 2013 and 2014 DPWTC winner Henrik Stenson is currently in second place and reigning champion Rory McIlroy is third.
