Meet the athletes behind this week’s cliff hanger
Who will reign at Red Bull World Series final in Dubai?
Diving into water from 28m can feel like running headfirst into a brick wall if it’s not done right. This weekend, cliff divers from across the world will be diving into Dubai Marina to compete in the season finale of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series - and they’ll be hitting the water at speeds of up to 85kmph. To add to the drama, it’s the first ever event in the series to be held under floodlights.
The dives will be performed from a platform high up at Pier 7, and each competitor will be judged on a series of movements including back somersaults, tucks, twists and pikes – where the diver grabs their legs in a folded position. Scary stuff. Here are a few of the divers to look out for.
