UAE calls for a terror bill review
The UAE has urged the US Congress to review the controversial Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act ( JASTA). “The law undermines the foundations of international relations,” said Dr Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, speaker of the UAE’s Federal National Council at the 35th session of the InterParliamentary Union (IPU) in Geneva, Switzerland. She said that JASTA ignores the principles of international law regarding the legal doctrine of foreign sovereign immunity. Over the five days of the IPU event, participants will be reviewing a number of issues. These include the response of parliaments across the world to human rights violations and the freedom of women. She called for strengthening the role of parliaments in the trial of war criminals before the International Criminal Court.
