Jose Mourinho has challenged his Manchester United players to show they are “men” by recovering from the 4-0 humiliation at Chelsea with victory over rivals Manchester City tonight in the EFL Cup. United have a swift opportunity for redemption when City head to Old Trafford and Mourinho expects a reaction from his players, who are now five points behind the top four in seventh place. “I would prefer to play [next] in the Premier League. It’s a bad feeling in the Premier League. With the combination of results the gap to the top is six points,” said Mourinho. “We have had a very difficult period of matches but again this is not for kids, this is for men and we have to be men and work for the next one.” It will be the second time United have faced City this season, with Pep Guardiola’s side winning 2-1 in a league meeting at Old Trafford. But this time United could be without influential defender Eric Bailly, who suffered what is thought to be a knee ligament injury in the defeat to Chelsea. United captain Wayne Rooney could also be missing from the derby having been forced to sit out the defeat at Stamford Bridge due to a calf problem. Meanwhile, City will be hoping to bring an end to five straight games without a win.

1 Manchester United have just one victory in their last six matches, while City haven’t won in five games
