Fat-bust­ing US mayor to tell Abu Dhabi how to make fit­ness easy

An Amer­i­can mayor who trans­formed his city from one the most obese in US into one of the fittest is to tell an Abu Dhabi sum­mit how Ok­la­homa shed a com­bined one mil­lion pounds.

Mick Cor­nett chal­lenged the res­i­dents of his city af­ter it was listed as one of the fat­test in the coun­try in 2008.

Four years later, more than 150,000 res­i­dents of Ok­la­homa col­lec­tively crossed the one mil­lion pounds mark and they’re still go­ing.

Last week, Dubai Mu­nic­i­pal­ity re­leased the re­sults of a sur­vey that showed 64,000 pupils – 33 per cent of the school pop­u­la­tion – were over­weight or obese, with school can­teens sin­gled out for serv­ing junk food.

Rashid Hospi­tal also warned half of the coun­try’s stroke vic­tims are un­der 45 – the global av­er­age is 80 per cent over 65.
