Lucky escape for drivers
Police have arrested the boss of a construction firm after he allegedly hid the body of an illegal worker who fell to his death. The Arab contractor employed illegal staff and feared being found out if he called police about the accident, Sharjah Police said yesterday. He then tried to flee the country when the body was found. Police said they received a call about the body being found and discovered that the dead man, from an unspecified Asian country, had no visa and was being paid a daily wage. He was working on a construction project in the city when the accident happened. The dead worker was already wanted by police for being in the country illegally. After being found out, the boss tried to leave the UAE from Sharjah airport but was arrested minutes before he was due to take off. Police said he admitted that the deceased was an illegal worker. He also told them that he tried to hide the dead body as he was afraid of being questioned by police. He will be referred to public prosecution.
