Po­lice have ar­rested the boss of a con­struc­tion firm af­ter he al­legedly hid the body of an il­le­gal worker who fell to his death. The Arab con­trac­tor em­ployed il­le­gal staff and feared be­ing found out if he called po­lice about the ac­ci­dent, Shar­jah Po­lice said yes­ter­day. He then tried to flee the coun­try when the body was found. Po­lice said they re­ceived a call about the body be­ing found and dis­cov­ered that the dead man, from an un­spec­i­fied Asian coun­try, had no visa and was be­ing paid a daily wage. He was work­ing on a con­struc­tion project in the city when the ac­ci­dent hap­pened. The dead worker was al­ready wanted by po­lice for be­ing in the coun­try il­le­gally. Af­ter be­ing found out, the boss tried to leave the UAE from Shar­jah air­port but was ar­rested min­utes be­fore he was due to take off. Po­lice said he ad­mit­ted that the de­ceased was an il­le­gal worker. He also told them that he tried to hide the dead body as he was afraid of be­ing ques­tioned by po­lice. He will be re­ferred to pub­lic pros­e­cu­tion.

Two mo­torists walked away with only mi­nor in­juries af­ter their ve­hi­cles col­lided and burst into flames yes­ter­day morning. The ac­ci­dent hap­pened on Sheikh Mo­hamed bin Zayed Road in Umm Al Quwain. One of the driv­ers, a woman, was taken to Sheikh Khalifa Gen­eral Hospi­tal with mi­nor in­juries. The other was slightly in­jured but did not need hospi­tal treat­ment.
