In a boost to youth cricket in the country, the Emirates Cricket Board has launched a new U17 UAE Academy Cricket League. The league, which commenced play on October 8 this year, is being conducted in cooperation with the region’s most established cricket academies. It is a white-ball 30over format with a total of 69 matches scheduled over a sixmonth period. David East, Emirates Cricket Board CEO, said: “This league gives each academy the responsibility of hosting their home games and providing the away team with a professional and competitive playing experience.” The new season-long league will see each player’s statistics monitored and recorded throughout the season, allowing them to track their progress and approach the game more professionally and allowing the board to form a talent pool.
