Amateur ace Thomas impresses again
Dubai-based amateur golfer Rayhan Thomas was pleased to have made the cut on his Challenge Tour debut but was disappointed with his closing 72 at the Ras Al Khaimah Golf Challenge. The 16-year-old was handed an invitation to the tournament after impressing on the MENA Tour and showed his quality by producing three consecutive under-par rounds. He then closed with final round that included three birdies and three bogeys to finish the tournament on five-under par. “The experience was really good and I really appreciated the opportunity to play,” Thomas told 7DAYS. “I will always cherish this moment, my first Challenge Tour event, making the cut and shooting five-under for the first three days. “I wish I could have played better in the final round but overall it was great playing with so many good players and I’m looking forward to next year.” Thomas finished tied for 55th place, 15 shots behind eventual winner Jordan Smith of England. Now, after competing against the next generation of stars on the Challenge Tour, Thomas will again be in action this week at the Muscat Hills Golf and Country Club. The teenager will appear in the final event of the MENA Tour season safe in the knowledge that he has already secured the leading amateur title ahead of Matias Calderon of Chile.
