Now urine trouble Couple jailed after bid to swap samples to escape drug rap
A woman has been jailed for trying to swap her urine sample with that of her boyfriend so he would test negative for drug use.
The Emirati pair hatched the plot after the man was taken to hospital following a heroin overdose.
Prosecutors told Abu Dhabi Criminal Court that the man was in a bad condition.
After treating the patient, doctors informed Abu Dhabi Police anti-narcotics department that they suspected he had taken heroin.
Police officers went to the hospital and asked for the man’s urine sample so it could be tested, but he managed to hold them off for about half an hour.
“The man told the officers that he was not feeling well at the time,” said a prosecutor.
“He promised to give in his urine sample as soon as he felt better.” Prosecutors said that about 30 minutes later, the Emirati’s girlfriend went to visit him in the hospital and the pair planned to switch the urine samples.
The woman took along the sample cup that had been given to her boyfriend to collect his urine and put her sample in.
The boyfriend later called a security officer and handed him the urine sample, claiming that it was his. But police found out that it didn’t match his medical records.
Police made the suspect take another sample in their presence, which tested positive for heroin and other drugs, which were not named in court.
CCTV cameras in the hospital room also showed his girlfriend handing him her urine sample after coming out of the bathroom.
The judge jailed the boyfriend for four years for misleading police and drug possession, while the woman was jailed for a year for misleading police.
