Royal coat sold at auction
A jacket belonging to HH Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of the ruler of Sharjah, fetched £100,000 (Dhs440,000) at a charity auction. The item of clothing went under the hammer along with 100 pairs of jeans donated by global icons at the Jeans for Refugees charity auction – and bagged the highest bid for an item. The garment, redesigned with golden thread by Johnny Dar, an internationally acclaimed fashion designer and artist from Cincinnati, USA, was originally exhibited from October 24-30 at the Jeans for Refugees art exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery in London. At the auction, the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) bought the jacket, which was worn by Sheikha Jawaher, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), during her visit to Zaatari Refugee Camp in Jordan in 2014.
