Brathwaite holds off Pakistan

Opener Kraigg Brathwaite’s 12th Test 50 led West Indies’ fightback on the second day of the final Test against Pakistan in Sharjah.

The visitors who trail Pakistan by just 37 runs with four wickets in hand had bowled out Misbah-ulHaq’s side within the first hour of play on day two before slumping to 38-3 by lunch.

Brathwaite stitched two 83-run partnerships with Roston Chase and later Shane Dowrich to steady the ship for the Caribbeans.

Dowrich played on a Wahab Riaz delivery just three short of his fourth Test 50 to make way for captain Jason Holder who negotiated the final few overs of the day before the dying sunlight forced play to end.

Though Pakistan seem to be marginally ahead a more determined looking West Indies could make it an interesting final three days and stop Pakistan from making a historic 9-0 sweep of the tour. The first few hours of play will be key in determining the balance of the game. The third day’s play starts 10am this morning UAE time.
