The Friday session at the Breeders’ Cup saw a record turn out of 45,673 visitors, the event’s highest ever since adding a second day starting in 2007. It was a 1 per cent increase over last year’s Friday crowd of 44,497 in Kentucky. There was a shock in the $2 million Distaff at the Breeders’ Cup as Beholder edged out race favourite Songbird by a nose. It was Songbird’s first loss in 12 races. Ridden by Gary Stevens, it was Beholder’s final race of her career.
