Dubai Sevens set for a record-breaking year
More than 4,800 players to compete in 2016 event
The 2016 Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens will see a recordbreaking number of teams competing in the Invitation Tournament.
The Dubai Rugby Sevens attracts some of the best international players and now Olympic medal holders in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series and the HSBC World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series and in a unique feature to Dubai, the international event hosts the largest Invitation Tournament on the world circuit.
Including the netball tournament, the Dubai Rugby Sevens will see 324 teams, 937 matches and 4,866 players in action during the three-day festival.
Invitation tournament manager Jill Conlon said: “The Invitation Tournament has seen phenomenal growth over the years and this year will be the largest Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens. “With more than 4,800 players battling it out on all of our eight rugby pitches and our netball courts this will be a three-day sporting event like no other. “Players from the Invitation Tournament also have the opportunity to mix with the international players making this very exciting for many avid rugby fans.”
