Mercedes smartens up the E-Class

Drive Pi­lot main­tains a safe driv­ing dis­tance from the car in front while cruis­ing at speeds of up to 130kph. It will also ad­just steer­ing based on sur­round­ing ve­hi­cles and struc­tures, mean­ing it’ll keep the car go­ing straight even with­out lane mark­ings. Ac­tive Emer­gency Stop As­sist can bring the car to a stand­still if it de­tects the driver is no longer in con­trol. Eva­sive Steer­ing As­sist helps the driver steer the car around a haz­ard if it de­tects they are per­form­ing an emer­gency eva­sive ma­noeu­vre. Ac­tive Blind Spot warns the driver via the side mir­ror when ve­hi­cles are lo­cated in the blind spots. At­ten­tion As­sist warns the driver if they are be­ing inat­ten­tive or ap­pear drowsy. The Pre-Safe sys­tem takes pre­ven­tive mea­sures in case of an ac­ci­dent, such as belt ten­sion­ing, clos­ing win­dows and the roof and po­si­tion­ing the front pas­sen­ger’s seat. Ac­tive Brake As­sist warns the driver of im­pend­ing col­li­sions, such as a pedes­trian in the road (pic­tured) or a car cross­ing at a junc­tion, and will even ap­ply the brakes if the driver does not re­spond. Ob­sta­cles are spot­ted us­ing radar and cam­eras.
