Cops trace dealer to find en­tire drug farm

Po­lice were called to in­ves­ti­gate re­ports that a farm worker was grow­ing mar­i­juana – only to find he and his gang were cul­ti­vat­ing an en­tire field of the plants.

Details of the raid in March emerged as 10 men went on trial at the Dubai Court of First In­stance.

Three men stand ac­cused of grow­ing and sell­ing drugs, while seven oth­ers found at the scene had been smok­ing it in the farm.

The men, aged 50, 24 and 21, had no lawyer to rep­re­sent them when they ap­peared in court yes­ter­day and did not en­ter a plea.

Prose­cu­tors said Dubai Po­lice re­ceived in­for­ma­tion that one of the men at the farm on the Dubai-Al Ain Road had been sell­ing mar­i­juana.

Of­fi­cers raided the site on March 14 and found the 10 men along with a large drug op­er­a­tion spread­ing out into the fields. An Emi­rati of­fi­cer By Ali Al Shouk tes­ti­fied: “We found seeds in­side a room and some mar­i­juana. We found tools used to prod­uct mar­i­juana too.”

He said: “They led us to a field con­tain­ing hun­dreds of mar­i­juana plants.

“They ad­mit­ted that they were us­ing the mar­i­juana for per­sonal use and also sell­ing it to cus­tomers.”

Al­to­gether po­lice seized 1,035 plants mea­sur­ing up to 108 cm high. More than 7kg of mar­i­juana was also found on site.

Judge Mo­hammed Ja­mal de­layed the case un­til later this month so that a de­fence lawyer can be as­signed.
