Rivals prepare to unveil own loop

7 Days in Dubai - - NEWS -

You will one day be able to live in Al Ain and travel to work in Abu Dhabi in a matter of minutes, writes Patrick Ryan. That’s according to Bibop Gresta, Chairman and Co-Founder of Hyperloop Transportation Technologies (HTT), who said his firm will be making a major announcement in the coming week about a GCC project. Speaking at the MENA Rail and Integrated Transport Summit yesterday, Gresta said that once complete, HTT’s project will revolutionise public transport across the region. HTT uses similar technology to Hyperloop One but is a separate and rival company. It is currently in talks to link Bratislava, Vienna and Budapest with a hyperloop line for one project and Los Angeles and San Francisco in another. Gresta said: “We want it to be the opposite of an elite service. For the Los Angeles to San Francisco project we are planning to charge about $5 a customer. “By doing this it means we can bring the project into profitability. “Humanity needs this service as fast as we can provide it. That’s why I took this job. You could live in Al Ain and be at work in Abu Dhabi in minutes. “It allows you to open it up to everyone and control the central traffic. “We are looking at Amazon Prime-style subscriptions so you can get unlimited use as well.” Gresta said the cost of a hyperloop project is potentially the cheapest form of public transportation. To build a metro line costs $80 million to $120 million per kilometre, a train line $50 million to $150 million per kilometre and a hyperloop will only cost $40 million per kilometre, Gresta said.
