Stenson keeps hold of top spot in the Race to Dubai
Henrik Stenson will head to the DP World Tour Championship as the Race to Dubai leader after finishing eighth at the Nedbank Golf Challenge. The current Open champion went into the penultimate tournament of the season knowing that victory in South Africa could have seen him wrap up the Race to Dubai title. However, the Swede was never in contention for the title and will now hope to secure his place as Europe’s No. 1 at Jumeirah Golf Estates next weekend. Stenson is 290,239 points clear of Willett, who finished tied for 11th in South Africa, and will be the firm favourite to win the Race to Dubai title for a second time. Stenson has twice before won the DP World Tour Championship and will be looking for a hat-trick to wrap up a memorable season. Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy (left) dropped down to fourth place in the rankings after choosing to miss the Finals Series events in Turkey and South Africa. The four-time major champion was overtaken by Alex Noren thanks to his stunning victory in Sun City.
