Affordable housing needed ahead of Expo 2020
By Adrian Back Jumeirah Golf Estates may be synonymous with the European Tour’s DP World Tour Championship season finale, but the team behind the everexpanding complex are determined to attract thousands of new residents through the introduction of affordable apartments and townhouses.
The Alandalus development will consist of 715 one, two, three and fourbedroom complexes, with the starting price set at Dhs597,000.
With properties in the Redwood district ranging from Dhs3 million to Dhs30 million, Jumeirah Golf Estates officials realised that more affordable housing was required as they look to expand ahead of Expo 2020.
One of the key decision makers, Abdulaziz Bukhatir, Executive Director of Jumeirah Golf Estates, explained to 7DAYS why introducing a lower price range was essential.
“We looked at the market and saw that our neighbours were building luxury high rises so we decided to introduce more affordable living,” he explained. “We are always trying to diversify and while we are known as a golf destination, we realised we needed affordable luxury space. “It is about a lifestyle as 75 per cent of our land is lush green and in many areas in the UAE and the GCC you can’t find this type of space.” By the time the development is finished, there will be 1,700 homes available in Jumeirah Golf Estates, meaning thousands of residents will require easy access to amenities. While the clubhouse now includes a recently opened sports bar and also boasts a state of the art gym, there are plans for further facilities. “There are certain requirements for our residents and we are working on providing a school, a retail centre and medical facilities,” said Bukhatir.
“That is one of our priorities.”
With the upcoming Dubai Metro link also making access to the area far easier, Bukhatir outlined how important it was to have the work completed in the next three years.
“We have also recently appointed a master planner for our further developments,” he said.
“We have a vision for our entire area and by having the Metro next to us certainly helps so we need to be ready for Expo 2020.
“Having a sustainable transport system will help attract new residents and it will also work in adding value to the properties. Each house will come with a golf buggy so you can easily travel around the estate as well.”
