Former Real Madrid and Spain defender Michel Salgado is greatly impressed with the quality of footballing talent in the UAE. However, the duFC programme director feels that the lifestyle in the UAE is far too easy and often makes the youngsters lose motivation in pursuing their dreams. He said: “It is very challenging in this country because the lifestyle is so easy, I would never miss a game for anything. No chance. Birthday party or holidays or anything, here they [the kids] get busy with PlayStation and social media.” Salgado felt there was “a lack of belief and passion” among the kids and his main aim with his own Spanish Soccer School is to get the kids to believe that they can achieve their dreams. He said: “That is something that we are missing a little bit in here, but I talk to kids in my academy about the importance of commitment. The psychological aspect is very important.”
