The UAE Prime Minister has delivered a message to citizens and residents as the world marks the International Day of Tolerance today. HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, wrote about the legacy of HH Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum and the country’s first president, HH Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Sheikh Mohammed wrote in an article on the UAE Cabinet website: “What makes us proud of our nation is not the height of our buildings, the breadth of our streets or the magnitude of our shopping malls, but rather the openness and tolerance of our nation. “Our pride stems from the fact that we are a country where everyone thrives equally regardless of their differences, with true love and acceptance – a country where people live and work harmoniously, raising their children to enjoy a future free of the fear of extremism, intolerance or discrimination based on their race, colour, religion, sect or ethnicity.” Sheikh Mohammed also wrote about new moral education courses that will be added to the school curriculum in private and government schools in the coming months. He also touched on freedom of expression, and the internet, saying that “while we all respect opinion and discussion shared online, we cannot allow it to spill into intolerance”. He added: “The greatest achievements of the UAE are the upstanding morals, values and principles that the world respects us for and that we wish to pass on to our future generations to come.”
