Right time for Arsene to end Jose hoodoo

Arsenal have never earned a win over a Mourinho side in the league

E ver since Jose Mourinho waltzed into the Premier League back in 2004, the Portuguese manager has always enjoyed clashes with Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal.

In fact, Wenger has never tasted victory in the league when Mourinho has been in the opposition dug out.

The duo have been pitted against one another on 11 occasions, with Mourinho coming out on top on five occasions and six games ending in a draw.

Wenger’s only victory over Mourinho came in the Community Shield in August 2015.

But in all of those games, Mourinho was in charge of Chelsea. And in the main it was a Blues side contending for league titles.

But this time around Mourinho is under immense amounts of pressure as he attempts to restore Manchester United to former glories.

So far it has not been going well for the self-titled ‘Special One’, with United fans unhappy at his team’s performances and his selection policy.

United find themselves down in sixth place, having already lost three times this season.

Meanwhile, there is renewed hope among the often pessimistic Arsenal supporters having not seen their side lose since the opening day of the season against Liverpool.

The Gunners may only be two places above United but there is a sense of optimism thanks to the wonderful football being played in particular by Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.

There is also steel in the Arsenal line-up thanks to summer signings Granit Xhaka and Shkodran Mustafi.

Combined with the firepower up top, Arsenal have conceded less and scored eight more league goals than United.

With Mourinho also unable to call upon talisman Zlatan Ibrahimovic, due to suspension, United could find it difficult to break down a dogged Arsenal defence.

The Gunners may have only won three times at Old Trafford in 24 league matches, but the time appears right for Wenger to finally break his Mourinho hoodoo.
