Lo­rina crowned coun­try’s Best Nanny

A nanny who be­came a “lit­tle sis­ter” to her sin­gle mum em­ployer and helps her to raise her chil­dren has been crowned the UAE’s Best Nanny, writes Veathika Jain. Lo­rina Bu­nio, 29, from the Philip­pines, has worked for Sharene Ann for two years and has be­come part of their fam­ily. She looks af­ter Sharene’s young chil­dren, aged four and one. The awards were run by Rise, an or­gan­i­sa­tion which aims to pro­vide fur­ther op­por­tu­ni­ties for do­mes­tic work­ers. Lo­rina was among 200 nom­i­nated nan­nies who al­to­gether at­tracted 100,000 votes. Lo­rina told 7DAYS at the cer­e­mony: “I am so emo­tional and happy right now. Sharene helped me to get ready for tonight’s event and for me this is my fam­ily and girls.” She will in­vest the Dhs5,000 prize money in help­ing her fam­ily set up a busi­ness in her home coun­try. The run­ners-up were Dana Acur­iza, 40, who works for Veronica Smul­ders and jumped into a pool af­ter her boy fell in, and Basma Abas, who was nom­i­nated by one of the chil­dren in her care af­ter her own hus­band died last year.
