Lorina crowned country’s Best Nanny
A nanny who became a “little sister” to her single mum employer and helps her to raise her children has been crowned the UAE’s Best Nanny, writes Veathika Jain. Lorina Bunio, 29, from the Philippines, has worked for Sharene Ann for two years and has become part of their family. She looks after Sharene’s young children, aged four and one. The awards were run by Rise, an organisation which aims to provide further opportunities for domestic workers. Lorina was among 200 nominated nannies who altogether attracted 100,000 votes. Lorina told 7DAYS at the ceremony: “I am so emotional and happy right now. Sharene helped me to get ready for tonight’s event and for me this is my family and girls.” She will invest the Dhs5,000 prize money in helping her family set up a business in her home country. The runners-up were Dana Acuriza, 40, who works for Veronica Smulders and jumped into a pool after her boy fell in, and Basma Abas, who was nominated by one of the children in her care after her own husband died last year.
