Reconnect and heal yourself – visit a modern-day shaman

7 Days in Dubai - - HEALTH -

he word shaman conjures up images of a mystical medicine man at the heart of the jungle. But Bart Smyth is a modernday shaman who talks to us via email. Bart helps clients to heal themselves through a combination of natural elements, ancient and new philosophies.

Bart has trained with South American teachers and holds the title of grandmaster of Tai Chi and Qi Gong (ancient Chinese exercises). He conducts group healings and workshops at the Life’n One wellness centre on Jumeirah Beach Road.

He says: “I work with everything and my approach is based on principles of martial arts, Chinese medicine, Western medicine, neuromuscular and learning methods.

“The combination of bio computer technology, physical therapies, quantum physics with these practices are effective and deliver results. My tool box is an eclectic mixture that upgrades all aspects of the human experience.” But before discovering shamanism in the 80s, Smyth (right) owned an architectural design and contracting company. He said he was ‘not open to the conversation of spirituality’, until a car accident gave him a different perspective on life. “It made me stop and take care of myself instead of continuing to work on past pain. “I had to regain my bearings in life and search for myself and find balance where before, I was always full on.” Nature is at the core of shamanism, he says. “The connection and truth of nature is in and around us all, yet, as my teacher Don Benjamin in the Amazon told me, ‘Nature is screaming at you Bart, you’re not listening.’ With guidance and focus, we can connect and utilise the balance of nature to bring our inner and outer world to balance and freedom.”

Clients approach Smyth with different concerns from physical trauma to common illnesses and also for personal training and coaching. He reiterates he does not ‘heal’ anyone, because only a willing person can heal oneself.

“Even walking in rubber shoes that insulate us from Mother Earth’s energy creates disconnection. We all want to feel strong, energised, and confident. With the natural ways supporting the modern world, medicine, business, families and communities can function with more ease. In fact, simply standing with our feet to the earth for 30 minutes a day is shown to eliminate many ailments.” See lifenone.com
