Tenant looking forward to better bargaining position

7 Days in Dubai - - ENTERTAINMENT -

Finally a headline to cheer up the renters who have been ripped off by scrupulous landlords for years! (It’s time to ask for a drop in your rent’, 7DAYS, Nov 21). I for one am moving out in the New Year and cannot wait. I am downsizing to save a huge amount of rent but staying in the area I have lived in for 5 years. I have been fairly lucky with our landlords, but still paid expensive rent rates. Remember if your landlord wants you out without notice – and they may try and pull the wool over your eyes – a year’s notice has to be given to you 3 months before the contract is to be renewed or cancelled. If you decide to agree to move without legal notice, you are entitled to a compensation package by law to cover your moving expenses etc. This does amount to quite a decent amount of cash which really helps the inconvenience of estate agent fees, movers etc. Know your rights and do it properly with the law! Remember though, if you don’t want to move out, you do not have to by law, and they are on your side! Know your rights people! I for one cannot wait for 3 to 4 cheques and negotiable new rent package and not at the mercy of estate agents who are only interested in selling villas not renting! Now they have to be helpful as this is paying their bills! Bring on 2017, it’s going to be tough year for everyone but at least we renters can now afford to tough it out! Miss Red not in the red anymore Dubai
