Andd that if you refuse to learn them, the lessoon will keep knock­ing on your door un­til you pay at­ten­tion. As hippy-ish as the the­o­rry sounds, this proves to be true for me time aand time again. This month, it’s been the less­son of pos­i­tive thoughts. I’vve re­cently started a new awe­some ex­er­cisse class (@PeachSeries­byJesBody), which is more than just a phys­i­cal work­out. As partt of the deal, we are en­cour­aged by our su­per-loovely, hugely in­spir­ing, ridicu­lously fit and ever-en­er­gised in­trepid leader Jes Body, to post ddaily mantras on our group chat. I re­sisted at first and then, with Jes’s prod­ding, started going through the mo­tions of find­ing pos­i­tive mantras on­line and post­ing them. And the strangest thing hap­pened. Af­ter about a week, I found my­self wak­ing up think­ing about my mantra for the day and ea­gerly wait­ing for the rest of the crew to up­load theirs. As a re­sult of these mantras, I found that I had a health­ier, hap­pier at­ti­tude to my days – the stresses and the joys. I started feel­ing more en­er­gised and mo­ti­vated to tidy up the house, sell my car, re­place my lost Emirates ID (for the umpteenth time). Ev­ery­thing just seemed clearer, and more sur­mount­able. I felt lighter. Around the same time, I in­ter­viewed a won­der­ful woman with an amaz­ing story (see page 26) about how she over­came se­ri­ous child­hood health is­sues – not just us­ing med­i­ca­tion and ther­apy, but also pos­i­tive psy­chol­ogy. As a re­sult, this woman is such a strong be­liever in pos­i­tive psy­chol­ogy that she has done a Mas­ters in the sub­ject.

The no­tion that we can choose how we feel is a dif­fi­cult one to get your head around when it seems like the odds are stacked against you. But the ef­fects and im­pact of chang­ing your state of mind are real.

This, in the month when we are cel­e­brat­ing In­ter­na­tional Women’s Day (March 8 – check out our round-up of the best ways to cel­e­brate it on page 14), is a great les­son. Even when we feel like we don’t have much choice be­cause of our adult re­spon­si­bil­i­ties, we can choose how we are going to think. And that sin­gle de­ci­sion can de­ter­mine the out­come of each day. It’s pow­er­ful and is a source of great in­ner strength. So if you haven’t tried shar­ing daily mantras be­fore, team up with some friends and try it out... You might just like it. Have a fab­u­lous Women’s Day!
