IWF as con­tain­ing child sex­ual abuse im­ages rose by 118 per cent on the pre­vi­ous year. Al­most 70 per cent of the im­ages were of chil­dren as­sessed to be un­der 10 years old and a third were ex­tremely dis­tress­ing. In the UAE, Dubai Po­lice and the Telecom­mu­ni­ca­tions Reg­u­la­tory Au­thor­ity (TRA) launched a cam­paign to spread aware­ness of ‘cy­ber ex­tor­tion’ in 2015. Dubai Po­lice re­ceived 212 com­plaints of on­line black­mail in 2015, up from 80 cases in 2014. The TRA also launched Salim.ae, an on­line re­source to in­crease in­ter­net safety aware­ness.
