Ikea Saudi Ara­bia was quick to re­act to the news that women were to be al­lowed to drive in the king­dom, with its agency – Memac Ogilvy – turn­ing around a cel­e­bra­tory cam­paign in less than 48 hours. In the same week­end, Ikea launched its first of its kind fe­male tactical cam­paign. The cam­paign ran for three days only in Jed­dah, Riyadh and Dam­mam, based on a com­pe­ti­tion where en­trants could win cars, kitchens and vouch­ers. One Ikea fe­male staff mem­ber was the lucky win­ner of her first car. In par­al­lel, the home fur­nish­ing re­tailer de­vel­oped this “It’s about time” so­cial me­dia post.
