Having built a fashion empire on elegant and modern eveningwear, it was no surprise to see Marchesa become the celebrity go- to when they naturally progressed into bridal gowns years later. Here, the brains behind the brand Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig give us an insight into their wonderful wedding world.

You’ve been working on your fashion powerhouse Marchesa together since 2004, why do you think you work so well together?

GC: Our specialties in design complement each other quite well, which plays a huge part. My role focuses on conceptualising the collection designs and silhouettes, whereas Keren’s background in textiles translates to all the intricate embroidery.

KC: While we both play separate roles in the design process, we are very much aligned in design aesthetic. A great part of our success together is also that we are best friends – we understand and support each other in all areas.

You’re both mothers, how do you get the right balance between family life and killing it in your career?

KC: A lot of careful coordination and scheduling! Georgina and I are so lucky to have incredible support systems, including our Marchesa family – we love bringing our children into the studio when possible, it’s always so much fun.

We love the 3D florals and detachable skirts from the new collection – how do you think traditional tastes are shifting?

GC: We love that brides today are more willing to experiment with their wedding day look. Our collection caters to those women by offering different silhouettes and colours, including dresses with convertible details so they can create two distinct looks with one gown.

KC: Your wedding dress should be an expression of your personal style. For brides that are looking for something different that may mean choosing a classic bridal style in an unconventional colour, while others may opt for separates or cocktail dresses.

What’s next for the brand?

GC: We’ve always envisioned Marchesa as a lifestyle brand, so our ventures into fragrance and accessories were inevitable. What’s next for us is surprisingly something that we’ve been doing for quite some time! Our Bridal and Notte collections are both successful categories for us and we’re excited to be launching our Notte Bridal collection, which will be available this spring.

KC: With the new collection we have a unique opportunity to target a wider audience who desire the luxury and romance of the Marchesa brand, but at an attainable price point. The 13- piece collection exudes the timeless, luxurious femininity that Marchesa is known for and boasts modern silhouettes with beautiful fabrications and exquisite embellishments.

What inspired this season’s bridal collection and what trends should the Emirates Bride reader keep an eye out for?

GC: We really focus on bringing our inspiration to life rather than highlighting trends. For our S/ S17 bridal collections we were inspired by regal and enchanting gardens – which resulted in lightweight, feminine silhouettes in rosy ombres and dip- dye blush pinks.

KC: The whimsy and regal feel of our spring bridal assortments lent themselves to ornate detailing such as 3D organza roses and hand- cut petals juxtaposed with crystal, pearl and opal embellishments. The result was incredibly romantic yet fresh, perfect for a warm weather wedding.

Why did you choose Esposa to showcase Marchesa bridal in the UAE?

GC: ( Esposa truly understands our brand and, more specifically, the Marchesa Bride. Our customer has an eye for beauty, romance and ethereal elegance, which Esposa values and appreciates.

What are your failsafe tips for finding the perfect wedding dress?

GC: Don’t get carried away by this season’s trends, stick to finding a dress or separates that fit your personal style. You want to feel the most comfortable, confident and beautiful version of yourself! We also recommend taking your venue into consideration when choosing your wedding day look. A lightweight and flirty dress with exaggerated movement is perfect for an outdoor wedding, while you’ll want to think about closed toe shoes and a wrap to keep you warm for a winter affair.

KC: In addition to overall silhouettes, it’s important to pay attention to the smaller details such as embroidery and beadwork on your dress and veil – they can make such a statement and really elevate your look. Another essential – two pairs of shoes: one for the ceremony and one for dancing the night away.
