Syrian artist Khaled Takreti says he is “not a simple man”. “I feel,” he says, “the urge to analyse everything that unfolds in the laboratory that is my brain.”

The Paris-based artist’s latest bout of self-analysis produced his new solo exhibition, LOL. The show, which we championed in an earlier edition, made its debut in Beirut in September and is now on display at Dubai’s Ayyam Gallery.

Using photography, stenciling and etching, Takreti takes a swipe in LOL at the world’s obsession with electronic devices. “I depict them in my works because I feel the need to leave a testimony of today’s world for future generations,” he explains. “In a hundred years, people will probably look at my works the same way we look today at Renaissance paintings of knights carrying swords.”
