THE EDITOR’S LETTER

Emirates Woman - - Woman Contents - SENIOR EDITOR SOPHIA SERIN

Iremember the scene quite well. It was my first day back in the office after getting hitched. I was adjusting my brooch in the mirror of the Motivate bathroom when a colleague sidled up to me and asked: Did you marry for love? Startled, it took me a second to digest the question – what other reason is there to get married? She smiled as I said ‘yes’ and I left the bathroom thinking how fortunate I was to be with a person I wanted to be with – not one I had to be with.

For many women, marriage to a man they hardly know is common and in the case of many women in the Ukraine, the only way out. The popularity of the ‘romance tour’ (where Western men literally go on bus tours to meet women) is shocking and our report on page 86 exposes an industry where the business is selling ‘happy ever after’. On other matters of the heart, do you know what it is that actually makes us fall in love? If you think it’s all about fairy tales and pheromones, think again. Studies have shown that choosing a mate is all down to science, so flip to page 76 and discover whether you are a ‘explorer’, ‘builder’, ‘negotiator’, or ‘director’ when it comes to seeking out your soul mate.

Have a great month,

FOLLOWME ONTWITTER @SOPHIASERINEW
