A celebration of everyday life around the region through the lens of Middle Eastern female photographers.
Tanya Habjouqa, above, took this photo between the outskirts of West Bank’s Hizma Village and just outside Israel’s Hizma Checkpoint into occupied East Jerusalem. “Two furniture makers take a break in a pair of plush armchairs in the open air. Their moment of rest creates a makeshift room: a ceiling of blue sky, a carpet of gravel underfoot. But their backdrop is Israel’s 26-foot high security wall, intended to keep Palestinians out. It is an intrusion of the acutely political into the most mundane of moments.”
