We knew it would be popular – but we didn’t realise quite how popular. Our inboxes have been overflowing with entries from hopeful parents and starry-eyed children desperate to win the trip of a lifetime to Disneyland Paris for their family, courtesy of Babyshop. Part of the Landmark Group, Babyshop has been providing quality fashion, baby basics, nursery furniture, toys and accessories to the niche segment of 0-16-year-olds for 40 years across the region, with 35 stores in the UAE. It’s also in the business of granting wishes, and it’s doing this by giving away the chance for two children and two adults to mingle with Mickey and giggle with Minnie in the enchanted world of magic, memories and happily-ever-afters in Disneyland Paris. We’ve had some amazing entries, but only one family can win this incredible prize via
Friday. After sifting through the deluge of contestants, we’ve narrowed it down to a shortlist of six lucky children who are still in the running. So if you’ve made it through, wish upon that star as hard as you can to enjoy Babyshop’s ultimate Disney dream...
Name: Maahi and Saishaa Prabhu Age: One-year-old twins Location: Al Nahda, Dubai Parents: Ganesh, 36, regional sales manager for an American multinational corporation, and Pavitra, 32, stay-at-home mum. Why they want to win: “Our twins love the Disney princesses Aurora and Ariel. Maahi and Saishaa were born after a seven-year-long wait post-marriage, so they are very precious to us. Unfortunately, we had to cancel their first birthday party because my father passed away, so we’d like to make this up to them by celebrating their birthday in Disneyland. Our babies have been a lucky mascot for us and we hope this Babyshop Disneyland contest will be lucky for them!”
Name: Rachel Fernando Age: 12 Location: Qassimia, Sharjah Parents: Sampath, 39, business development manager, banking, and Savanthie, 35, stay-athome mum. Why she wants to win: “Our daughter adores the brave, gorgeous and smart Princess Ariel. Disneyland is where her favourite fairy tales can come to life and where imagination meets reality. If we were to win, she’d be thrilled and I would shed tears of joy at making a dream come true. I know we’re adults but Mickey and the gang were our childhood heroes too! Winning this would be like living a dream, and dreams define who our children are and what they can become!”
Name: Lance Marrero Age: Eight Location: Al Majaz, Sharjah Parents: Claudio, 43, quality assurance manager, and Angela, 37, stay-at-home mum. Why he wants to win: “Lance just loves Disney’s Cars, in fact he has 128 die-cast vehicles! It’s taught him so much about friendship, loyalty, perseverance and passion. I hope from it he learns to never give up; not to judge others just because they do things differently; to always stick by friends and family; that life is a fun-filled journey; and to become the hero of your own story. I’d love to see the look of awe in his eyes on meeting his heroes, his sources of inspiration and creativity. We believe all we need in life is love and some PIE – Passion, Inspiration, and Enthusiasm... thanks to Cars!”
Name: Shamiq Syed Age: 10 Location: Electra Street, Abu Dhabi Parents: Syed Shahzaib Ali, 41, computer programmer, and Shariqa Syed, 32, stay-at-home mum. Why he wants to win: “Just like his hero, Buzz Lightyear, Shamiq is kind, friendly, heroic, mighty and tough, as well as very funny! He loves Buzz for his cool appearance, karate chop, glow-in-the-dark quality and awesome speed, and loves it when he says, ‘To infinity… and beyond!’ Our family of three has wanted to go on a holiday for more than a decade, especially to Disneyland where meeting the characters is the dream of all young minds.”
Name: Simran Gujral Age: 14 Location: Al Muwaiji, Al Ain Parents: Joginder Singh, 41, CFO, and Amarpreet Gujral, 37, pediatric occupational therapist. Why she wants to win: “Just like her heroine Cinderella, Simran has not been born a princess but has all the natural grace and poise of one. Cinderella is timeless in her courage, a symbol of hope who believes someday her wishes will come true. My daughter wants to be like her: strong enough in mind and spirit to hold on to her dream of becoming an astronaut! I would love to take her to Disneyland because I want her to leave inspired, with the courage to follow her dreams and redefine possibility.”
Name: Ardsher Irani Age: Seven Location: Dubai Festival City Parents: Porus Irani, 37, restaurant chain manager and Rehmat Irani, 37, stay-at-home mum. Why he wants to win: “My son loves Mickey Mouse as he always makes everyone laugh, is patient with his friends and rises to any challenge that comes his way. Having Mickey Mouse with him at school will make him confident enough to adjust to a new class and make new friends. Winning this Babyshop trip would give us the faith that dreams do come true if you believe in them with all your heart.”
