The next top superjudge?

Friday - - Welcome to Friday - Karen Pasquali Jones Editor kpasquali

My lips were lined in pencil, painted with fuschia lipstick, then glossed into a pout. My eyes were rimmed with kohl and flattered with false lashes. I had cheekbones for the first time in years thanks to clever shading, and my skin was suddenly healthily dewy thanks to the mastery of the make-up artist who’d spent the last half an hour transforming me from ugly duckling into a swan. Even my hair, usually a ball of frizzy, brassy blonde, had been ironed and curled into silky waves. I hardly recognised the woman in the mirror. “Anyone would think I was trying to enter the Elite Model Look competition rather than judge it,” I laughed. But my new look was nothing compared to the natural beauties I had to judge to see who would become the UAE’s next top model. A gaggle of blondes, brunettes and redheads strutted down the runway, their faces impossibly beautiful, their legs ridiculously long. They all looked like glamazons – and winners – to me. Somehow we managed to whittle them down to the final 12, with the winner, who’ll represent the Middle East at the world finals in China, to be chosen tomorrow. See all the behind-the-scenes action in our reportage on page 24. Enjoy the issue aand I’ll tell you who won next week!
