Time to take action

I was horrified by the situation highlighted in your Making a Difference feature this week (‘Saving the child slaves’, September 6). It was appalling to see pictures of small kids working in absolutely inhuman conditions. I hope parents of these kids and the government realise that by making them work at such a young age they are robbing them of their childhood, innocence and aspirations.

It’s so sad the children believe they don’t have any other option but to work to survive. This is where charitable and government organisations come in. They need to find a sustainable solution to the problem and stop the exploitation of these children. The governments should ban all the companies that use these sweatshops for their own monetary benefit.

Once these companies know there are severe punishments for a crime of this nature, they will not work with these sweatshops and we will then be able to safeguard the interest of these little ones to a larger extent.
